The Norfolk Rapidplay 2022 was held on the 30th January 2022. Bernie Ross, Sam Gaffney and, some time Woodbridge player, Ed Kirkham were playing.
Bernie finished on 3.5 out of 6 and upped his rapidplay rating to 1590 – far exceeding his standard rating which is somewhere in the 1200s. We include one of Bernie’s games below – a good win against Lowestoft player Barry Connor, rated in the 1700s at the time:
Following on from his disappointing showing at the Lowestoft Rapidplay in November, Sam once again underperformed achieving 3/6 with his rating climbing slightly to a 1566. He was cruelly flagged in a drawn game and drew a clearly won game so hope remains that one day his rating will top 1700 – Sam’s 2022 rapidplay goal. Perhaps his snazziest game was against Norwich Dons’ Biran Shah where a unlikely move mated. Can you find it in the position below?
After losing to Sam in the first round, Ed Kirkham romped home to a tied first place. Congratulations to Ed Kirkham! Maybe we can lure him back from Felixstowe one day.
